This month’s celebrations are being shaped by our community. Thanks to a recent gathering with families, students, and staff alongside the District African American Parent Advisory Committee, our schools are moving forward with a wealth of ideas to make Black History Month meaningful, engaging, and reflective of what matters most to our community.
Throughout February, each PESD school will bring these ideas to life through learning, reflection, and connection, ensuring Black History Month is celebrated across classrooms and school communities.
As we celebrate this month and beyond, PESD remains committed to creating spaces where students feel seen, valued, and supported, because when students belong, they thrive.

Without belonging, there is no learning.
When students feel seen, heard, and valued, learning comes alive. Confidence grows. Curiosity deepens. Leadership emerges. Belonging is the root of student success at PESD.
We are proud to be the only school district in California implementing a truly holistic, districtwide approach that integrates academic learning, social-emotional learning, wellbeing, and family engagement, all grounded in belonging.
Students build agency and emotional literacy through Sown to Grow weekly check-ins, SEL growth checks, Zen Zones, and community circles, guided by our SEL Superpowers of Personal Awareness, Empathy, Regulation of Self, Relationship Building, Integrity, and Self-Advocacy.
Belonging extends beyond the classroom through our Community Schools Initiative and Wellbeing & Belonging efforts. From Wellbeing Teams to Community Outreach and Family Advocates, we partner with families to remove barriers and build trust, including support through our El Nido housed at the Rob Reiner Children and Families Center.
At PESD, belonging is how learning begins and how futures are shaped.

Belonging takes shape when families, students, and staff come together.
Earlier this month, our District African American Parent Advisory Committee (DAAPAC) gathering brought the community together to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and to help shape how Black History Month will be celebrated across our schools next month.
Through shared conversation, families and students lifted student voice and envisioned meaningful Black History Month experiences, including student-led activities, cultural celebrations through music, art, and storytelling, and classroom and family engagement rooted in connection. The evening reinforced a shared commitment to celebrating Black history intentionally and inclusively at every grade level, as part of everyday school life.
This is what belonging looks like at Perris Elementary School District.

Community Survey on PESD Schools Early Release Day
Dear PESD Families and Community Members,
We are currently reviewing the schedule for our district's early release day with the goal of establishing a unified early release day for all schools, including charter (IHCS). This goal is to streamline operations and ensure consistency across the entire district.
We value the perspectives of our community. Your input is crucial in determining:
1. The optimal day of the week for the aligned early release schedule.
2. Whether aligning the early release days across all district and charter schools best serves our community and staff (we will be surveying our staff separately).
Please take a few moments to complete the short survey. Responses will be collected through January 9, 2026. You may complete the survey using this link. The data collected will be instrumental in guiding our decision-making process regarding the early release schedule.
Your participation is anonymous and is greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Perris Elementary Teachers' Association (PETA),
California School Employees Association, Chapter 489 (CSEA) and
Perris Elementary School District (PESD)

We hope you had a restful Thanksgiving break. What a joyful way to step into the holiday season as our mariachi winter recitals begin.
Last night, Skyview students lit up the stage and wowed families and friends with their incredible talent. Their hard work and dedication were felt in every note. Later this month, it will be Innovative and Railway’s turn to shine. We cannot wait to cheer on more of our young musicians.
At Perris Elementary School District, music is one of the many ways our students enrich their learning. By embracing cultures and sharing our connectedness, we create schools where every student feels seen, heard, and celebrated.
#EverybodyBelongs #EverybodyLeads #EverybodySucceeds #PerrisPromise

We want to wish all of our students, families, and staff a joyful and restful Thanksgiving break, filled with connection, gratitude, and time with loved ones.
🍂 Reminder: No school tomorrow & Thanksgiving Break is from November 24 to November 28
Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Perris Elementary School District.
